Dear Wood Enthusiast,
My name is Ron Hilliard and I live in Des Moines, Iowa. I am an avid woodworker and volunteer at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. We have been fortunate to be gifted wood from a Nebraska woodworker’s collection and are arranging an on-line auction to run October 1 – 12. The wood is from the Southwest and comprises many large slabs of Juniper and some unique pieces of Manzanita. Many of the planks are 3” thick and lend themselves to live-edge projects. These woods are rarely available to us in the Midwest, but their unique coloring and grain patterns invite new kinds of creativity.
The on-line auction is being conducted by Wagner-Dent Auctions, Humeston, Iowa. Those wanting to examine the wood in person can do so at the Botanical Garden, 909 Robert D. Ray Drive, Des Moines Iowa, on Saturday, October 2, 10 AM – 5 PM. Please follow signage in the parking lot. Park to the east side of the lot and walk to the viewing area behind the building. Purchased items are to be picked up on Sunday, October 24th or Monday, October 25th from 10am-5pm both days.
Enclosed are pictures of the stores of wood and examples of projects completed using the juniper and manzanita. Please consult the on-line announcement of the auction: All proceeds from the auction will support programming at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, and are tax deductible as allowed by law. Enjoy the selection and thank you for your support!
